Like most people, my hearing lacks in some frequency bands. But now I can hear what I’m mixing thanks to a plugin, and it’s changed my music production – for the better!
The plugin is called “Hears.” It’s not an expensive plugin, and it really helps my mixing and mastering sessions by letting me hear what I’ve been missing due to my poor hearing in some frequency bands.
First, the plugin gives you a hearing test in both ears and then it builds a compensation curve to help you hear what you’ve been missing.
I engage the Hears plugin on my C bus (FL Studio) so that it is active on whatever channel I have selected at the time.
In a lot of cases, I was over emphasizing the high end because I could not hear the high end as well due to my hearing loss in those high frequency bands. Now, with Hears active, I can hear those bands and when I mix I do not over emphasize the high end. I end up with a more balanced mix and I’m producing better music as a result..
